Mono Lake

Walking among the tufa pillars at Mono Lake is like traveling across the Sea of Tranquliity on the Moon. It's a bizzare place. A hyper-saline lake, the only thing that lives in it are some 5 trillion brine shrimp. The tufa columns are a combination of calcium carbonate facilitated by microbiological growth.
