Having a communist bent, Laos is much less developed that its neighbors. You will still see farmers tilling their rice paddies with oxen, and women harvesting the rice by hand. Transporation can be bone rattling, but you will be rewarded with beautiful vistas, cordial people, great food, and real off the beaten track adventure.
