High Sierras

The Eastern Sierras rise abruptly up from Owens Valley, in some places the vertical drop is 7,000 feet. Here you'll find the tallest mountain in the continental US, Mt. Whitney (14,505ft). These photos were taken between Mono Lake and Whitney Portal. The snow stays all year long in places forming glaciers that carve the rugged peaks.
